The Administration policy of Ministry of Education (MOE) was to raise English teaching and research quality and international competiveness for universities in 2010. Meanwhile, the English Teaching/ Learning Recourses Center in northern, central, southern Taiwan were assigned to promote the “ short-term, mid-term, and long-term planning for English courses” for each school by the Technological and Vocational Education in 2010. The purpose of establishing the “short-term, mid-term, and long-term planning for English courses” in each school is to make students and teachers understand the plan of English courses and to establish each ability standard for English courses. Moreover, it is to make students and teachers learn and teach according to the ability standard and make the teachers design the appropriate materials for students to raise students’ English ability.
MOE assign our school to establish the English Teaching/Learning Recourses Center in Central Taiwan and assist the English courses planning and execution in each technological and vocational university in central Taiwan. To make our school become the model school in central Taiwan and become the reference for other partner schools, our school planned the “short-term, mid-term, and long-term planning for English courses” from January to March in 2010 and then was approved by the “General Education and Commission of General Education meeting” on March 24, 2010. Then, the execution outline of this plan was presented in the administration meeting of Department of Applied Foreign Languages in April 14, 2010 and in the supervisor meeting in April 27, 2010. Our students can search the content of “short-term, mid-term, and long-term planning for English courses” on our learning map website or Language Center. Except for the original English courses, we also opened the ESP hidden courses to make students expose to the ESP content and goals in March in 2010; we also had the English remedial teaching and English Elite Program. Also, we official opened the ESP courses in September in 2010.
